About BaseboardCalculator.com

Last updated August 21, 2026. A free, independent calculator and reference site for baseboard and cove base trim.

Why this site exists

Figuring out how much baseboard to order for a room — or a whole house — usually means the same manual math over and over: measure every wall, subtract doorways, add a waste allowance, then convert to pieces and cost. BaseboardCalculator.com exists to do that math instantly and consistently, whether you're estimating one room from a tape measure or an entire project from square footage alone, and to explain the material and installation decisions that come with it.

How the calculator works

The room-by-room calculator sums each wall's length into a total perimeter, subtracts the width of any door or opening you enter, then applies a waste allowance (10% by default) to cover miscuts, coping loss, and corner waste. That net figure is converted into a piece count based on your selected board length, and — if you enter a price per linear foot — a total material cost. The quick square-footage estimate uses the same underlying math with a density multiplier as a stand-in for wall layout, the same rule of thumb a contractor uses for a fast ballpark before a full room-by-room takeoff. Every calculation happens in your browser; nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How the content is written

The material comparisons, cost ranges, and installation guides on this site reflect standard, widely-used trim-carpentry practice — the same techniques and material trade-offs covered in general home-improvement references. Cost ranges are approximate planning figures, not quotes, and will vary by region and supplier. Pages are reviewed and updated periodically; if you spot something that's out of date or incorrect, the privacy policy page has a contact address.

Independence

This site is independently run and isn't affiliated with, sponsored by, or paid by any manufacturer, retailer, or contractor. No products are sold here and no company names are promoted — the only revenue on the site comes from non-intrusive Google AdSense display ads, placed to stay out of the way of the calculator and guides.

A note on accuracy

Every estimate here is a planning tool, not a substitute for measuring your actual space. Walls are rarely perfectly straight or square, and material widths vary slightly by manufacturer — always round up, and verify critical numbers with a physical tape measure before ordering material.
